Great Travel Experiences Are Meant to be Shared
I have always been a traveller. I love to experience new places, poke around, learn what makes them special. Along the way, I have learned that travel involves work and thought. It’s much harder to be a traveller than a tourist. A tourist seeks only escape and the pleasure of letting others do things for him, and that’s easy to find. Escape is seductive, to be sure, and occasionally it is exactly what one needs. But escape is so fleeting; it fades even faster than a suntan. The rewards of travel are something else again; they last for a lifetime. And the effort that is made to seek out the true pleasures of a place like San Andres is as personally rewarding as finding them.
We travellers, we may not react the same way to the same things, but we do react. We do not rate a place by its ability to provide us with what we left at home. We want the rare, the best, the quintessential, but we reserve the right to make our own judgement about what constitutes the rare, the best and the quintessential. We trust others’ opinions but we have a healthy distrust of conventional wisdom.
My intense is always to record impressions of specific things, not just simply to take pretty pictures. There are wealthy tourists and there are good travellers who must scrimp for a year to take a modest holiday. Some of the things that I buy when travelling may be more expensive, to be sure, but in my judgement they are worth the price. Many other things are free or cost about as much as movie ticket.
San Andres y Providencia website is one person’s conception of the best of San Andres and the information you need to discover it for yourself. If this website is a prelude to your first, or fifth, or fiftieth visit to San Andres archipelago and it helps to increase your enjoyment and understanding, I will be very, very pleased. Great experiences were meant to be shared.
