Curacao was settled by the Dutch in the 17th century and today has the largest population of the five islands that make up the Netherlands Antilles. Visitors can still see evidence of Curacao’s Dutch roots in its shops and attractions.  With beautiful sunny beaches, great shopping, fun attractions and a long and rich history, the island of Curacao is a fantastic destination for a Caribbean vacation

Shopping in Curacao can be an adventure. Curacao has one of the world’s busiest ports, and an assortment of items from all over the globe can be found in Curacao’s shops.  The town of Willemstad in particular is known for its shops.  The stores are also filled with Dutch souvenirs like windmills and blue & white china, always popular with tourists.

Have you ever wanted to see an ostrich up close?  Head to the Curacao Ostrich Farm, where you can head out in a guided safari jeep and see the giant birds, and other animals, roaming the grounds.  This attraction is a favorite with traveling families.

With its long (by North American standards) history, Curacao has several interesting historical attractions.  Wander up to Fort Nassau and enjoy the views of the island and water from its heights, then dance and dine in the restaurant and disco located there.  Visit the Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, which was built almost three hundred years ago and has the distinction of being the western hemisphere’s oldest synagogue.  Or explore the exhibits at the Museum Kura Hulanda, and learn facts about Curacao’s past, like the discovery of gold.

Curacao’s beaches are among the Caribbean’s finest, and there are several to choose from.  Try the beaches at Santa Barbara Bay or Playa Abao.  At the Curacao Sea Aquarium you can sea myriad species of marine life, watch shark and dolphin shows, and even swim with the dolphins.
