Consider Bolivia on your next trip to South America

South America is a very popular destination around the world for many including Americans, Europeans, and even Australians.  Buenos Aires has commonly been dubbed the Paris of the South while the beaches of Rio de Janeiro are infamous around the world.  One place that is commonly overlooked is Bolivia.  Nestled inside the countries of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Peru, this country provides one of the most unique destinations in the world commonly described as “walking on water”.

While not physically possible, the largest salt flat in the world in Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, provides an incredible view that you can’t find anywhere else in the world.  There are private and public tours available to take you to see this incredible sight.  It sits 4,000 feet above sea level and in the winter it creates the unbelievable white out effect.  Many have taken pictures as if they are walking on water.  The tour guides do say that it is best to see Salar de Uyuni in the summer which is the dry season but many try to see the salt flat in during the rainy season to get the best pictures.

The public tours normally take from one to four days but as discussed earlier you can create a personalized tour with a private operator to see the Bolivia attractions of your choosing.  One other site that you may want to experience is the most dangerous road in the world.  Before they constructed the new road the death toll was over 200 a year.  Many people still try to trek the old road with bikes.  Many are still extremely cautious due to the sharp turns and the limited width of the road.  The next time you are heading to South America definitely include all the Bolivia tourist attractions to your plan including the death road and Salir de Uyuni.
